Automounting with autofs

Reliability: A static NFS mount in fstab blocks the boot if the server is down. autofs simply waits — no mount, no hang, no emergency mode.
Resources: Idle mounts hold kernel mount-table slots, NFS client threads, and firewall state. autofs releases them after the timeout.
Scalability: If 500 users each have a home directory on an NFS server, static mounts would create 500 entries in fstab. A single autofs wildcard map handles all of them in one line.
