◆Concept — What is a partition?

A partition is a contiguous chunk of a disk that the operating system treats as an independent block device. Instead of seeing one 500 GB disk, the OS sees (say) three separate devices: a 1 GB /boot, a 100 GB /, and a 399 GB /home.

✨Mental Model

Think of a disk as a long hallway. The partition table at the start of the disk is a floor plan that tells you where each room begins and ends. You can't walk from one room into the next without going back to the hallway — that's the isolation boundary.
